GUAM’S Animum Tasi Metgot and Poksai dominated the 2009 Micronesian Cup paddling fastest during last weekend’s outrigger canoe race in Saipan lagoon off Fiesta Resort and Spa.
Completing the 12-mile race cruising south to Pacific Island Club and back to Fiesta Resort beach, the paddlers of Animum Tasi Metgot were the fastest in Men’s Open with one hour, 33 minutes and 39 seconds.
Barely two minutes behind them was the Saipan Outrigger Canoe Club that reached the finish line in first hour and 35th minute.
Haggan also of Guam placed third finishing it in 1:39:29.
In Women’s Open distant race, Guam’s Poksai returned north first with 1:37:28.
Animum Tasi Metgot’s women team placed second with 1:38:10 and Animum Tasi Fote settled for third with 1:47:36.
Animum Tasi Metgot men’s team also paddled the fastest in 1500-meter sprint beating SOCC with over 30 seconds gap. They also ruled the mixed 500-meter and mixed 1500-meter with 2:87:7 and 9:10:81 minutes respectively.
Poksai also ruled the women’s 500-meter and 1500-meter open race, finishing the course in 2:88.07 and 9:43.7 respectively.
SOCC men were the fastest in 500-meter sprint completing it in 2:45.06. Trailing them were the Haggan paddlers who finished the lap in 2:48.3.
